At the conference, Director of the Department of Home Affairs, Truong Ngoc Tuan, approved the plan for reorganizing commune-level administrative units, closely following central government guidelines on standards for natural area and population size.
Phu Yen Province covers a natural area of 5,025.99 square kilometers and has a population of over 1 million. The province is administratively divided into 9 district-level units, including 6 rural districts, 2 towns, and 1 city; and 106 commune-level administrative units, comprising 82 communes, 18 wards, and 6 townships.
Based on the commune-level administrative unit reorganization plans submitted by the 9 districts, towns, and cities, and in accordance with the regulations of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Phu Yen PPC has developed a plan to consolidate the current 106 commune-level units (communes, wards, and townships) into 34 units (27 communes and 7 wards), representing a reduction of 67.92% compared to the existing total.
In particular, the Standing Committee of the Phu Yen Provincial Party Committee has agreed to establish Phu Yen Ward. Phu Yen Ward will be formed by merging Phu Dong, Phu Lam and Phu Thanh Wards; Hoa Thanh Commune of Tuy Hoa City; part of Uat Lam Quarter (Hoa Hiep Bac Ward, Dong Hoa Town); and Phu Nong Hamlet (Hoa Binh 1 Commune, Tay Hoa District).
Phu Yen PPC Chairman Ta Anh Tuan stated that naming Phu Yen Ward meets the aspirations of a large number of local officials and people. This ward, located in the southern part of the Ba River, is a central area with a scale and area that ensures space for development. Phu Yen Ward is equipped with an airport, a highway, a high-speed railway, and a high-speed rail passenger terminal. The area is also planned to develop the VSIP industrial park, which will serve as a catalyst for socio-eco development. The PPC is also considering proposing to the Provincial People's Council to allow the naming of some iconic local landmarks in the region, such as a square, streets, etc., after Phu Yen...
Comrade Cao Thi Hoa An, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council, emphasized that the restructuring of administrative units aims to build a political system that is “Streamlined - Lean - Strong - High-Performance - Effective - Efficient”, serving the people better and creating momentum for the socio-eco development of localities. The new administrative boundaries of communes and wards must ensure convenience for residents in travel and production activities. Newly established administrative units should bear names that are easy to read, easy to remember, concise, and systematically and scientifically consistent, while reflecting the local history, traditions, and culture. These names should both inherit historical values and gain consensus from the People through broad-based consultations.
